Technical sites

Delftship, a boat design software package, is available in a free version.  The features of the free version are somewhat limited, so V.F. Timoshenko has picked up development of an open-source version called FreeShip.  Freeship seems not to have a home page, but can be found at various sites.  Here's a link to FreeShip Plus 3.1+, but you may want to search for newer versions.  FreeShip and Delftship files are cross-compatible.

Michlet, a free boat drag prediction package

Toni Vakiparta's site, which has Freeship/Delftship models of quite a few KOG kayaks, along with comparisons of predicted speed and technical characteristics

Freeship/Delftship model of the Goodnow, a kayak collected by Robert Peary's 1896 expedition to Greenland.  This kayak is displayed at the Sudbury (MA) Goodnow Library (hence its common name), and is close to the hearts of Walden paddlers.
